Since 2001, the Family Caregiver Support Program has worked to stimulate the local counties and towns to generate and offer support to family members who care for senior relatives (60+) at home. Direct assistance to caregivers is under development in the form of:
- enhanced information about available community services;
- assistance in accessing services;
- support groups, caregiver training, and individual counseling;
- respite care; and,
- supplemental services of various kinds.
A regional Family Caregiver Resource Specialist advises and monitors county use of federal/state grant funds (including those through Title III E of the Older Americans Act), which are to provide direct service in the above categories and leverage additional community services from other partner organizations.
