Town of Pine Level Becomes Newest TJCOG Member Government

Growth Highlighted as Key Reason for New Membership
June, 2020 - The fiscal year for Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG) came to a close with an exciting addition, the organization's 44th member government. At the May Board of Delegates meeting, delegates unanimously voted to approve the Town of Pine Level's request for TJCOG membership. The Town will be the eleventh member from Johnston County. The County has seen dramatic growth in the past decade, adding almost 40,000 new residents since 2010. This growth has been felt in Pine Level.
"Situated just east of I-95, and straddling US HWY 70 East, (soon to become I-42) we have been preparing for the residential and industrial growth that interstate access affords municipalities" remarked Pine Level Mayor Jeff Holt. "In preparation, we have extended water and sewer infrastructure, re-zoned several parcels of property, and marketed the services of our town to several residential and commercial developers. Like many small towns, our professional staff is limited, which makes TJCOG membership all the more attractive. Economic development assistance and networking with neighboring municipalities facing similar challenges are tremendous benefits."
Local government members of TJCOG receive a wide range of benefits including technical assistance, educational programming and resources, and in-house expertise on aging services, economic development, water resources, resilience and disaster recovery, affordable housing and more. Additionally, an elected official from each member government serves as a delegate on the organization's governing body. Mayor Jeff Holt has been appointed to serve as Pine Level's delegate on the board.
